Linux Foundation Welcomes Qualcomm

QualcommAt the annual Linux conference, LinuxCon, announced that the Qualcomm Innovation Center
(QulC) had joined as a platinum member.

QulC focuses on open source software, Linux platform technology and developer tools. The group
contributes a number of open source software tools in mobile technology including the Linux kernel and WebKit.

Google’s Linux based Android mobile platform are used in many popular Android handsets which are shipped with Qualcomm hardware components.

Qualcomm is working its way slowly into the open source environment and is
positioning itself to take a more central role. Platform fragmentation as one of the major challenges for mobile vendors. It’s an issue for Qualcomm, because the company’s handset partners use multiple operating systems. Qualcomm
anticipates that working with Linux Foundations and others, more Linux based products will come to market more quickly.
